June 7th is National Trails Day!

On National Trails Day, June 7th, 2008, Center Grove Trails, Inc. and Greenwood Trails Advocacy Board will host a trail walk in Center Grove and Greenwood.

Center Grove Trails and the Greenwood Trails Advocacy Board are sponsoring their 2nd Annual National Trails Day walk on June 7th, 2008. Their theme is “Join Us on the Trail”. There will be several trail lengths to choose from ranging from 2 miles to 11 miles. The public is invited, elected officials, pets, and anyone who likes to walk and raise trails awareness. “Last year we had over 40 people from 3 trails groups and this year we hope to double that figure” stated Anita Knowles, chairperson of Center Grove Trails, Inc.

CGT will begin at Sugar Grove Elementary School about 10:00 with registration and departure about 10:15 (roundtrip 4 miles). Greenwood trail walkers will begin at Bob Evans on Main St. at 9:00 (roundtrip 11 miles) or meet the group at 9:50 at the Children’s Park (roundtrip 6 miles) or 10:15 at Westside Park (roundtrip 4 miles). All trail walkers will meet at the Meijer Parking lot on St. Rd. 135 about 11:00 for a break and chicken nuggets and water, compliments of Chick-Fil-A. The White River Township Fire Dept. will have a Fire Truck and EMT vehicles on display and Center Grove Trails T-shirts on sale under the CGT tent.

Trail walkers will begin their return walk from Meijer about 11:20. Registration is free. With four choices of routes and distances we hope to encourage more people to participate. We suggest wearing white T-shirts and carrying a water bottle. And, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

The trail groups share a vision where safe bicycle and walking/jogging pathways will connect from the Center Grove area to Greenwood. For more information go to: www.centergrovetrails.org.

Monon Walk March 15th

Center Grove Trails will be hosting a 5 mile walk along the Monon in Carmel, Indiana on March 15.  They have invited local elected and appointed officials to join in the walk/tour of the Greenway and its various economic and community benefits it provides to Carmel and its citizens.  Ron Carter, the Executive Director of the Greenways Foundation will be the guide.   The City of Carmel has been very successful in creating a walkable community that includes the Carmel City Center, an Arts District, City Center and Performing Arts Center.  The Carmel Monon Greenway's 5.2 mile portion is located within the city limits and the Monon Trail begins at 10th Street in Indianapolis to 146th St. in Carmel with plans to continue the greenway to Westfield.  Walking along the Monon Trail in Carmel will prove that trails and pathways play a very important in the economic growth of a community allowing walkers, joggers, runners, bicyclists, roller-bladers and nature enthusiasts a place to use but also connects to a vibrant downtown that encourages people to stop and enjoy a meal, shop, be entertained, or just people watch!
